Covering Us Like Willow Branches is the second movement of a larger work called Shooting Stars Over City Cars for wind ensemble. Overall inspired by fireworks and the boisterous energy that accompanies them, this movement is more about moments of peace that you can find in every situation.
Overture To A Car Crash is the opening segment of a chamber opera that will premiere in the Spring of 2016. The opera tells the story of four very different people who are brought together by their experiences waiting in traffic on the 5 Freeway. Overture To A Car Crash features a Greek chorus which narrates the opera and serves as a link between the character's stories. In this scene the chorus sets the tone for the entire opera by singing about the moment of impact in a car accident and what one may contemplate in the split seconds it takes to come to terms with what is happening. The piece ends with the choir reminding us that "Traffic is a terrible ballet that comes and goes each day. Always different, always the same."
A Slow Dance (On The Inside)
Written for my mother and part of a three movement suite for Small Wind Ensemble, A Slow Dance (On The Inside) tries to capture that special bond that is only known between a mother and her son.
